Spirituality, Corruption and Crime was the title of the presentation offered by the Honourable John McKechnie QC, former Commissioner of the Corruption and Crime Commission of WA at Coffee, Prayers and Spirituality on 25 November 2020. John sub-titled his address with ‘Can wicked rulers be allied with you, those who contrive mischief by statute?’ (Psalm 94:20)

John McKechnie is a second generation West Australian and an active member of the Uniting Church of Australia in Perth. For fun he drives a tugboat around the Swan River. In his career in law he was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1989. John was the first Director of Public Prosecutions in 1992, following which he took up appointment as a Judge for 16 years including 3 years as senior judge, general division. He retired from the Supreme Court to take up the position of Corruption and Crime Commissioner in 2015. That appointment was not renewed in April 2020. John is Chair of the Government House Foundation, and has been involved in many charities and not for profit organisations, including roles in the Uniting Church. He is joint author of a leading text in Criminal Law.
