Ash Wednesday (26 February), the first day of our annual Lenten fast, will be set aside especially as a vigil for those affected by the bushfires this summer, for those who fought the fires, for those who died, and for those who now struggle to rebuild homes, livelihoods and communities.

The program for the day at the Cathedral is:

  • 8am – Morning Prayer, in the Soldiers’ Chapel
  • 8.15am – Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes, in the North Transept
  • 9am – Prayers for Terce, the third hour
  • The Cathedral clergy will take ashes for the people out onto Hay and Murray Street Malls, all are welcome to join in this walk of witness
  • 10.30am – Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes, in the North Transept
  • 12noon – Prayers at Midday
  • 2pm – Prayers at None, the ninth hour
  • 4pm – Evening Prayer, in the Soldiers’ Chapel
  • 6.30pm – Choral Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes, in the main body of the Cathedral
