Bach’s Easter Oratorio presented with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra @ Perth Concert Hall
Mar 31 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

In their second co-production, St George’s Cathedral and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra present WA’s first professional performance of Bach’s Easter classic, featuring:

Dr Joseph Nolan – Conductor
Sara Macliver – Soprano
Fiona Campbell – Mezzo
Paul McMahon – Tenor
James Clayton – Baritone
St George’s Cathedral Consort
Stewart Smith – Organ

The concert begins with the solemn serenity of Duruflé’s Requiem and in the second half, the Easter story reaches a jubilant conclusion in Bach’s Easter Oratorio. Both pieces are ideally suited to the pure sound of St George’s Cathedral Consort, which has a strong relationship with WASO, having sung alongside the orchestra on numerous occasions. This magnificent new celebration of Easter will be a highlight of the year at Perth Concert Hall.

Joseph Nolan – A Rare Opportunity
Jun 17 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Hailed by Sydney Symphony Orchestra as one of the world’s leading organists, this is a rare chance for Perth to hear Dr Joseph Nolan in concert.

The program will include Widor’s famous fifth symphony for organ. Dr Nolan’s recordings of Widor have been praised from New York to Sydney as the benchmark collection. Other works include Bach, Reubke, and the Australian premiere of Charles Valentin Alkan’s terrifyingly difficult Impromptu on Luther’s Choral ‘A Mighty Fortress’.

A Ceremony of Carols: Britten & Gardiner
Dec 2 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Introducing talented young WA composer Lydia Gardiner, whose work will stand proudly alongside Britten’s much loved classic. The two very different versions will be sung by Perth Cathedral’s female professional choir Sonus Angelorum (meaning the Sound of Angels), accompanied by harp and directed by Dr Joseph Nolan.

This concert launches two new musical phenomena! Lydia Gardiner’s A Ceremony of Carols is a world premiere, commissioned by Dr Joseph Nolan on recognising a new and extraordinary talent in Lydia.
