Palm Sunday, is the day on which Christians re-enact Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We gather outside the Cathedral where the palms are blessed and we process in to the Cathedral, itself decked with palms, where hear from the Scriptures the story of his passion and death.

Begin your journey this Easter with “Gloria,” a harmonious fusion of Western Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) and the St George’s Cathedral Consort. Master musician, Joseph Nolan, critically acclaimed for his musical interpretation and depth, will lead this divine confluence of orchestral and choral beauty, featuring timeless compositions by Vivaldi, Weelkes, and Handel.
As the Sacred Triduum begins, this service marks three of the major events of the Passion: Christ’s institution of the Eucharist, his washing of his disciple’s feet, and his agony in the garden while the disciples slept.
During the Eucharist we sit with the disciples as our feet are washed, as we obey Christ’s instructions at the Last Supper to ‘do this in remembrance’ of him, and we watch with the Blessed Sacrament as the disciples watched with the Lord.
The Cathedral is stripped of its beauty and prepared for the sparseness of Good Friday
The First Mass of Easter with Baptism & Confirmation
As the Sacred Triduum comes to its climax, the Easter Vigil begins outside the West Door of the Cathedral in darkness as the Easter fire is lit and the new Paschal candle is marked with nails remembering the Crucifixion of Our Lord.
The Cathedral then returns to life with candles, music, readings, and incense, as the great Alleluias are proclaimed and we celebrate the first mass of Easter.
Candidates who have been prepared during Lent are baptised and confirmed by the Archbishop and we rejoice as God adds to the Church’s number and we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ.
