A Cathedral filled to capacity, and decorated magnificently by our Flower Team and the Vergers, was the setting for the Cathedral’s, and Order of St John of Jerusalem’s, tribute on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens.

Most importantly, the event was designed to focus attention on the poor and needy of our city and to raise funds to buy ‘street swags’ for those who live rough on our streets.  I am pleased to report that we raised over $5,000 through the support of those who made up the audience on Monday 3 December.

As director of the event, I would like to record grateful thanks to those who were able to attend – and so many of you! – together with the superb artists, Erin Hutchinson, Courtney Pitman, Katherine and Justin Freind, Graeme Napier, Ronald Macqueen, and Stewart Smith, our Vergers, and Jo Christmass.  It was a great team effort, highlighted by the willingness of so many to give of their talents and services to this part of the Cathedral’s mission.

With thanks,

Anthony Howes, Cathedral Drama Consultant.
