 DANTE THE PAINTER-LECTURE
Dante is more revered than read, which is a pity because he has much to say to us today. He was a fearless lay Christian, deeply read and with years of experience in the government of Florence during a troubled period of that city's history, the late 13th - early 14th centuries. In a Christian age he was convinced that Church and State had separate roles for man, and in sublime poetry he wrote about man's civic duties and his personal moral obligations. This illustrated talk introduces Dante the man and artist in his immediate Florentine setting. Dr Vincent Moleta of UWA fame will introduce us to this remarkable Christian artist and scholar and whet our appetite to know more of him –
