To mark the Official WA Birthd...Spirituality Series now includes after-work slot
To accommodate a working audience, the Cathedral's Spirituality Series now includes after-work talks from 5.15-6.15pm, with an opportunity for questions and discussion over plunger coffee.
This year, the Workers Coffee and Spirituality series runs on six Wednesdays in autumn and spring, beginning on 21 April with 'Spirituality and Sport'.
The Reverend Canon Richard Pengelley, Chaplain of St George's College and Lecturer in Spirituality at the Department of Human Movement, UWA, will examine the religious aspects of sport.
“Wherever sport began, in every ancient culture, it had a religious purpose,” said Reverend Pengelley.
“Perhaps things haven't changed much, especially in Australia, and this talk will examine the historical (from the Ancient Olympics to Muscular Christianity), sociological (especially the extraordinary ritualisation that goes with sport), psychological, ethical, media and theological links between sport and spirituality.”
Other sessions in the series include Spirituality and Defence (28 April), Carl Jung (5 May), Policing (20 October), Palestine (27 October) and The Reformation (3 November).
