French Fireworks A Frisson Of Delight!

Joseph Nolan swept us away with his brilliance last night in the opening concert of our 2012 SeriesFrench Fireworks II, in association with Alliance Française de Perth, was an absolute joy from start to finish.  At its close, the audience responded with resounding applause and a standing ovation.

A concert celebrating the French musical oeuvre could do no better than to start with Balbastre’s Variations and Air on ‘La Marseillaise’.  Other works included the charming Danse macabre by Saint-Saëns, a moving performance of Franck’s intense Choral in B minor, the highly engaging Sonata No 1 by Guilmant, an explosive rendition of the Finale from Vierne’s Fifth Symphony, and three movements drawn from Widor’s most popular symphony, No 5.

Joseph’s next eagerly-awaited concert appearance will be at Perth Concert Hall in March for Organ Spectacular.  He will be making his debut with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra playing the Poulenc Organ Concerto and Saint-Saëns' Organ Symphony for the opening of the WASO Classics concerts.
