To mark the Official WA Birthd...Choirs join for concert by candlelight
The Cathedral's Choir and Consort are to perform together in a mid-winter concert by candlelight, with solos by five choristers, including William Huxtable, who sang for the nation in the 2009 Christmas broadcast on ABC TV and Radio.
The Choirs will perform Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem and John Rutter’s Gloria, accompanied by Brass Octet, led by WASO Principal Trumpet David Elton.
William’s solos will include the famous ‘Pie Jesu’ in the Requiem.
“Fauré’s Requiem is a work of sublime beauty, the ‘Pie Jesu’ for boy solo being a perennial favourite,” said Master of the Choristers, Joseph Nolan.
“Rutter’s Gloria is the perfect foil to Fauré’s work, with its tremendous energy and verve, the Brass Octet providing a thrilling accompaniment to the Choir.”
The Octet will also play pieces by 16th century Venetian composer, Giovanni Gabrieli.
The concert continues an annual tradition established last year by the Cathedral - a choral concert by candlelight with mulled wine served during the interval.
The Cathedral will be warmed for this mid-winter celebration, which sees two of Perth’s most popular and talented choirs join together.
Fauré’s Requiem and Rutter’s Gloria - a concert by candlelight is at 7.30pm on Wednesday 14 July. Click here for ticketing information.
This concert is part of the City of Perth Winter Arts Season.
