Cursillo - which is Spanish for 'short course' - originated in the Catholic Church in Spain during the 1940s, spreading to the USA in the fifties. It has since been adapted by a number of other denominations throughout the world, including the Anglican Church in Canada and Australia in the 1970s.

The concept arrived in the Perth Diocese in 1992 and has spread around the state, with 2,500 people having participated in Cursillos in more than 120 parishes.

Similar to a retreat, "the weekend includes eucharists, singing, laughter, times of reflection and silence, talks and discussions, and individual prayer and study which focus on action. Like a pilgrimage, Cursillo is for the faithful. It is not intended to bring newcomers to the faith." (From the Anglican Cursillo Perth website)

Separate weekends are held for men and women. From 24-27 September, a women's Cursillo will be held at Swanleigh in Middle Swan, led by Jane, with Theresa as spiritual director. Transport will be provided.

Places are limited to 25 and fill up fast. To book, contact Theresa Harvey at St George's Cathedral: (08) 9325 5766.
