Ascalon puts spotlight on Cathedral arts

As the Cathedral prepares the foundations for the installation of Ascalon on 15 August, a feature article in The Australian has highlighted the commitment of the Dean to supporting excellence in the arts.

Describing the new sculpture as the Cathedral's "boldest public art statement yet", arts journalist Victoria Laurie goes on to describe the Cathedral's impressive investment in high quality music and arts - ranking it "among the state's most influential, if underrated, art patrons".

The article can be read in full here: St George slays the notion of amateur hour in church.

Ascalon is to be installed in stages, with the first and most spectacular sections going up on Sunday 15 August between 9.00 and 11.00am.

The white ‘billow’ and 18 metre lance will cause quite a stir as they are transported through the City and lifted into position by crane.

Safety measures are in place to enable crowds to view this landmark event in the life of the Cathedral and the City of Perth.
