Ascalon progress recorded in images

Construction of Ascalon, the new public artwork scheduled to be installed outside the Cathedral over the next few weeks, is being recorded in images to enable the public to follow its progress.

DeanMarcus_resizedThe artwork is currently in sections at two factories, while a team of technicians works painstakingly to reproduce the unique design created by Marcus Canning and Christian de Vietri.

This fascinating sight was broadcast by Channel Ten on Sunday, while the hole and foundations were being prepared back at the Cathedral.

Pictured right are the Dean with Marcus Canning at the foot of the 19-metre lance. One metre of the pole will be underground, leaving 18 metres to reach into the sky.

More images will be added to this album as the project proceeds. The lance and billow (cloak) are scheduled to be installed in mid July.
