The installation of the Cathedral's controversial public artwork, Ascalon, is scheduled for Sunday 15 August, subject to approval of the finished work.
The white billow, inspired by the cloak of St George, and the 18 metre pole, representing the lance - named Ascalon in medieval legends - have been completed and will be viewed by the Dean next week in the factory warehouse in Henderson.
Subject to approval, the work will be prepared for its journey north to Perth on the morning of 15 August. Part of St Georges Terrace will be closed to allow the load to move along to Cathedral Avenue safely.
Ascalon will be hoisted into position by crane, promising a spectacular sight. The black mass, representing the dragon, will be placed in position at the base of the artwork later in the year, along with the lighting, as work on the Cathedral grounds is completed, followed by an official 'unveiling'.
