Booking Your Wedding

bellsWeddings at the Cathedral can only be booked through consultation with the Canon Pastor, Theresa Harvey.

All weddings start on the hour, and we always allow two hours between bookings. Sunday weddings are always and only held at 2.00pm.

The Anglican wedding ceremony usually takes about 30 minutes. Please note that it is no longer traditional for the bride to be late! The organist (and bell-ringers if required) are booked for an hour to cover your wedding, and are free to leave for other engagements at the end of that time.

There is no charge for the sacrament of marriage in the Anglican Church. However, couples who marry in the Cathedral are required to cover the costs of the ceremony and contribute towards the ongoing ministry and maintenance of the Cathedral.

The standard Cathedral wedding package includes the organist, flowers, all administrative and legal arrangements, use of the Cathedral for the rehearsal and wedding, provision for parking the wedding cars, a verger to operate the sound system, the officiating priest, and copies of the order of service for all guests.

A deposit of $100 secures your booking. The balance is payable one month before the wedding.

The Cathedral’s peal of eight bells may be rung before and after your wedding ceremony. As the bells are rung manually by a team of ringers, an additional charge is made for the use of the bells. We advise you to book well in advance, as bell-ringers are in great demand.

Officiating clergy

The Canon Pastor will normally officiate at weddings in the Cathedral, but on occasions may ask other clergy to officiate instead.

If you wish to ask another Anglican priest, who is not a member of the Cathedral staff, to officiate at your wedding, you will still need to book the wedding through the Canon Pastor to discuss this request.

There is rarely any difficulty with this, but please note that in these cases, the Cathedral does not prepare and copy the service booklets.
